Salad Hands handmade from cherry

I have been asked a few time what was the best wood to use for wood salad servers or salad hands. At one time I would say hard maple, like bread and cutting boards hard maple is one of the best woods to use because the grain is so tight and they last forever. When it come to the best of the best woods for salad hands I would have to say Cherry wood. I use black cherry on my salad spoons or hands and I like to use woods that have good figure. Interesting twists and swirls in the grains gets my attention and sometimes I need to dig deep into a log to find this but it's all worth the effort when you see the grain pop out at you when you add some mineral oil to it. I could name a few more good woods to make salad hands with but for now I'm sticking with what I think is the best type of wood to use.
Black cherry wood will also turn darker in color plus the look of the wood as it ages just looks real good.

Wood Centerpiece for the kitchen or dining room table

<><>
I just finished off a very nice large wood centerpiece that would be great for a kitchen or dining room table. It could also be used as a large salad bowl as well.
The type of wood I used was from a fallen Butternut tree that was here in Ontario.
I used no stains on this bowl as I always like to show the true color of the wood and also the growth rings, In my opinion it makes it that more interesting.
I do work with other woods, knots and burls from other countries but I'm now discovering that my favorite wooden creations are local here in Ontario, Canada.

Large Butternut Salad Bowls

If you like wild grain in wood you will love this extra large Butternut salad bowl I'm making.
It stands tall at 6" and it's 17" wide.
These Butternut bowls are very popular because they are rare and hard to find.
The swirly grain in the wood is absolutely amazing as well.
